Retfest review we received in a local paper.
Retfest, Retford’s annual comedy festival, returned for its fourth year over the weekend of October 21st-23rd, taking over 11 different venues in the town for three days of non-stop laughter.
The event was kicked off on Friday night at the Galaway Arms with a set from Billy McGuire, setting the tone for a weekend filled with comedy from a diverse range of acts.
Saturday’s schedule included a special midday tribute to the late Cornish comedian Jethro at the Snooker Club. The tribute featured a variety of acts, each bringing their own unique take on Jethro’s style of comedy, and it was clear that his legacy still lives on in the hearts of many comedians and fans.
The rest of Saturday’s schedule featured a mix of established acts such as Ian Allerston and Griff, as well as up-and-coming comedians like Annabell Edwards and Tharun Challey. The Hideaway and The Brick & Tile were among the venues that hosted shows on the night, with the Packet Inn hosting a special late-night show featuring a lineup of comedians including Angela Bra Life, Glen Maney, and Phil Alexander.
The festival closed on Sunday night with a final set from Billy McGuire at Alberto’s, bringing the weekend to a fitting end.
Event organizer and part-time stand-up comedian, Mike Barker, said he was “buzzing” with excitement about the weekend. “It’ll be a fun, uplifting, jolly and fully Retford experience as always,” the 36-year-old said.

Overall, I feel the festival was a great success, with a diverse lineup of comedians providing something for everyone. The intimate setting of the local pubs and clubs made for a unique comedy experience, and the tribute to Jethro was a touching reminder of the lasting impact that comedy can have.
